He either lied about going to that community college, or he is an illiterate. Pure and Simple. This is not Sierra Leone decades ago. In a Democracy, there will be lots of times when officials will be tested by events. Sam Sumana the illiterate will fail. Get this illiterate another job.

Vice President Sumana On SLPP Ministers "We Need Their Co-operation"
Posted by on Oct 2, 2007, 03:32
The recent press release issued by the office of the vice president, demanding the co, operation of government officials in the transition process has been misinterpreted by some members of the public that the objective is to witch-hunt government officials. It may sound either preposterous or ridiculous to imagine not only baselessly but to attribute diabolical intention to national development. Although, some people may argue it out that the APC government should not impose restriction or limit the movement of government officials out of the country. What should be made absolutely clear to all and sundry is the fact that the development of this nation is the responsibility of every citizens and not only the government of the day or the SLPP, therefore if the project of development is to forge ahead and be meaningful every one should be seen playing very significant role. This is however not a justification to the press release but an effort to allay fears among the jittery and restless government officials who may be thinking otherwise.
Over the past years, successive governments had experienced non-co, operation from government officials exiting offices. They either leave without preparing proper handing over notes or just abandoned their offices whenever there is a change of political administration which in all fairness provides no insight for the incoming administration.
The present political arrangement seem to be different from what used to be practiced by government officials for the simple fact that the current administration intended to commence governance on information that would be provided to them by these officials of the previous government.
Candidly, information is power which the presidential task force should be able to elicit for the good of this nation from the previous administration that is why in a very gentle way they are requesting that government officials should not move out of the country until the necessary information and assistance are made available.
Because of the misconception, the vice president’s office thought it fit to issue out another release, putting the minds of government officials at ease. Besides, for the purpose of record keeping the police used to issue out traveling permit to government officials in the past. By doing so they were able to ascertain those officials and individuals traveling in and out of the country. It is only in Sierra Leone that individuals and foreigners travel in and out of the country without being documented, and in this era of terrorist activities it would be in the interest of the nation building to maintain records of all those traveling in and out of the country. This initial step adopted by the new administration should be applauded rather than condemned or described as witch-hunt. Perhaps, the interpretation would only be meaningful to those government officials who either have refused to comply with the demands of the presidential task force or have not treated it seriously as they have been used to do with past governments.
This reminds me about the activities at the Lungi International Airport where passengers are subjected to thorough and proper searching exercise by airport officials. In every international airport no passenger is above the rules and regulations of search

Conversing with Vice President Sam Sumana on the alleged Issue of intimidation of SLPP supporters and Lebanese Businesspeople in Kono
Karamoh Kabba
Vice President Sam Sumana, in a discussion today, expressed regret for the alleged intimidation of SLPP supporters and business people in the Kono district. The Vice President reiterated his earlier statement that the government needs the support of all Sierra Leoneans and business people without regard to their political affiliation, race or ethnicity.
Hon. Sam Samsuna, beside an effort of reaching the president of the Lebanese Committee in Kono district, Mr. Kassim Basma to reassure him of the APC’s zero tolerance for lawlessness, as reported by the Awareness Times newspaper today, stated that his administration will investigate the matter. He issued a downright condemnation of any form of hooliganism and lawlessness including the alleged raining of “obnoxious words” on Mr. Fawaz, a Lebanese businessman of Sahr Lebbie Street in Koidu town. “It does not sound good: President Ernest Koroma and I will not condone such lawlessness anywhere in Sierra Leone” he stated.
The Vice President reassured me that business people are an integral part of our economy. Their contribution to nation-building and national unity is going to be even needed now more than ever before. He took this as an opportunity to explain further that a lucrative market economy to cease the growing unemployment in Sierra Leone is a very important aspect of APC agenda. And, it is for this reason that the President, Ernest Koroma prioritized the provision of a sustainable energy source to reduce production costs, stimulate production and to effectively reduce the price of consumer goods.
Hon. Sam Sumana also swiped a bushy tail at the Awareness Times newspaper that the longish and winding effort to establish a relationship between him and a band of lawless citizens in Kono district is a distraction and is counterproductive to national unity efforts. He added that the APC will not be bogged down in journalists’ sensationalism, that they have a job to do and very quickly. “Previous governments’ failures to deliver have left us with an impatient citizenry and we must prove ourselves,” he concluded.

Did you promise all your sycophants and praise singers that you were going to give them posts and then realize that there are not enough cabinet positions to go around?
Well let me help you decide. Kabs Kanu, Minister of Religion or Propaganda. This once objective pastor threw religion to the wind and is now touting your presidency as the second coming of Christ. His desperation for position is reflected by todays headline, wishing you happy birthday as if you were born in Bethlehem itself.
Lawyer Iscandri, special assistant to the president. This mediocre lawyer has always been a strong supporter and has expressed on this forum his desire to serve you personally. His penchant for character assassination is unparalleled and you need the likes of him to tell Sierra Leoneans things are black, even when they are blue.
These are two able bodied and desperate intellectuals who have become unappointed sycophants. Please help them go back home. Thanks

I want to caution the supporters of the incoming APC government that the new system is not just for those who voted for APC but for all sierra leoneans. Since the election and the result and the looting and harassment that follows it , the country is becoming increasing divided along various lines and if the country is to go any where from its present state all sierra leoneans are suppose to be on board. Isolating and intimidating others will only lead us back but the government will never succeed in its plans to develop the nation. Lets other sierra leoneans know that the supporters of SLPP are just acting in a civilized and mature manner and that they dont want to undermine the peace and security of the state but they are no strangers to violence so let the APC supporters caution and stop the harassment, intimidation and looting of innocent people.
We want peace and development not destruction of what people already have over the years. Lets dont divide the country further but bring others on board.
I hope this media will educate their supporters to stop the violence, harassment and looting. This is a civilized elected government not a junta where people will take advantage of the gun to do things out of the way. I hope the literate folks will educate their illeterate brothers and sisters to stop.

jaff, you're one of those who go round and promote division in complete disguise. Your first statement, is deliberately inflamatory.
Pointing out that the new administration or it's supporters are isolating and intimidating other menbers of the Sierra Leonean soceity, is baseless and unfounded. And stands only to create divisions in our beloved country.
How can you justify in a population of approximately 2.7 million registered voters represented by 7 political parties that the ongoing violence is being perpetrated by APC supporters. Infact when you look at the areas where the violence is been reported, these are mainly strongholds of the SLPP party. Is it not common sense that if the APC supporters are to perpetrate violence, they will do it in areas where they have more support?
So I urge you to refrain from promoting violence and division.

Jaff, I am equally against looting and unnecessary harassment of ordinary citizens, on the contrary if your proposition is based on the assumption that members of the former SLPP governments should be investigated and those found wanton tried as against national development, thus the country is divided; I would strongly disagree with your views. Democracy is about accountability and respect for rule of law, there is sufficient evidence to assert that the former [members of the] SLPP government abundantly failed to deliver, which raises severe question posing a legal responsibility on the incumbent leadership on behalf of the people to investigate the respective affairs of all civil servants in the previous administration.
The SLPP was in authority for over ten years, the people of Sierra Leone should be informed on certain issues that were supposedly clouded by the authority vested in them, which again amounts to abuse of power.
On development, I’ll say yes we want development and peace, but we shall forever remain in want if justice is not upheld. Africans have suffered in the hands of foreign evaders, suffered slavery, suffered through independence; and yet Africans have known no peace or security simply because justice has forever been evaded with impunity.
I refuse to buy your idea and register my consent for justice, let the thieves be separated from the patriots, that my opinion on division.

I think if try and priortise the need of our society then we can develop but people said they wanted justice when they set up a special court and spend millions of dollars on it leaving amputees without shelter and food and parading the streets begging. That is what people called justice , i think is would have been better for the government to create a whole village of even low cost housing for those amputees with that money spent on the court than on those they are paying to run the court. What we need now is safe drinking water, electricity, roads, food to mention few not people in black robes arguing over what people have done without any end in sight. Let the audits be conducted of the ministeries, If anyone is found guilty , they will be prosecuted wherever they are. These funds are mainly donor funds
and I am sure the donor nations will aid in tracking down anyone who was found guilty in a fair trial. So why the need for harassing SLPP ministers. The APC should concentrate on forming a cabinet instead harasssing citizens.

Sierra Leone restricts ex-officials’ travel
AFP
Freetown - Sierra Leone’s two-week-old government said it would restrict officials from the previous administration from leaving the country while it carries out a department-wide corruption probe.
Everyone from ex-cabinet ministers to state company chiefs will require police clearance to travel abroad while a 60-strong team of experts carries out an audit of the last government, officials said.
“Since the transition team set up by the government is auditing all government ministries, departments and agencies, it would be in the interest of these officials if they stay around in order to enhance a healthy transition,” police chief Brima Acha Kamara said.
Sierra Leone’s newly-elected president, Ernest Bai Koroma, was sworn in on September 17 after storming to office vowing to stem widespread corruption.
The outgoing government of Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, in office for 10 years, is blamed for widespread corruption and economic mismanagement in the resource-rich but desperately impoverished west African country.
Presidential spokesman Alpha Kanu said the anti-corruption team was taking “stock of the present situation in the machinery of government including assets, liabilities, measures and actions awaiting implementation”
Kanu said the president is personally paying the panel of 60 professionals who have until October 5 to present a report on their findings.
“Except a person (who) has a case to answer, I have no reason to refuse clearance to leave the country,” added police chief Kamara.
Security officials have in the meantime “stepped up searches on all departing and arriving passengers as a routine measure”, one officer told AFP on condition of anonymity.
Amnesty International and Britain, the former colonial power and the main external backer of Sierra Leone’s drive against corruption, have condemned the outgoing government for failing to tackle the problem.
The diamond-rich country has this year slipped eight positions on the Transparency International corruption index to 150 out of 179 countries, from 142 last year.

He should be ashamed of his pathetic and corrupt SLPP President and ministers now going around and begging for mercy so that they cannot be investigated for ripping off that country. And then instead of being nice about it, this barbarian then comes here and behave just the way his SLPP caboodle is, a bunch of barbarians with that ugly Baboon (oops! sorry, I meant to say Berewa).

If Sadam Insane is in the diaspora, he should know that some of us find ourselves lurking between odd jobs because there is a prerequisite for employment in the diaspora; at least in the US. If one is unfortunate to satisfy that condition then it leaves one with no choice but to engage in a meaningful wage earning vocation; hence driving a cab. I know a lot of cab drivers with at least one degree to say the least. If Sadam Insane never drove a cab whever he was, does that mean that you Sadam Insane was better positioned on the totem pole than a cab driver. When I was at FBC there was a gentle man in the engineering department who drove his own taxi (honda civic station wagon) off lecture hours and weekends. Messers Hiondolo Trye and Pius Foray drove cabs in NYC. The government printer in Freetown, back in the early eighties, on a two years' leave in Freetown drove his own cab etc. etc. The bottom line for most of us in the diaspora is moneyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! I do not see what is wrong with being a cab driver. I know Sadam Insane that if you are doctor you can not do it all. You'll have to "PAY" someone to perform certain chores that you are knowledgeable of. Can we learn to repect ourselves please.LONTA

With all the jockeying for positions within the newly elected administration of President Koroma, I am struck by the lack. There is neither a lack of bravado nor a lack of highly accomplished candidates. However, when I look at all that has been written thus far, what I do see is a lack of service.
I have read lists of proposed cabinet members and names of people the country cannot be run without. I always wonder what were these opinions based on?
Many who have been listed are quite competent, but can they serve? Webster’s defines the word serve as (1) to do service; aid; help, (2) to carry out the duties of an office, (3) to meet needs. From these descr1ptions, I ask, “Can you serve”? “Do you have a servant’s heart”?
There is a big difference between an employee and a servant. I would assert that many of the failures in Sierra Leone stem from people being placed in positions but they were not truly servants. They were put in positions they did not have the character to be in. I doubt seriously is those positioning themselves for status they believe will be derived from being included in the incoming administration are truly servants.
As the President completes his selection process, my suggestion is that he asks some unconventional questions. He needs to ask his candidates when the last time they served was and when was the last time they served while the cameras were off.
He should also inquiry when was the last time they served within their houses of worship or civic organization and how. It is easy to serve for financial gain, but when you are a servant; you serve because that is who you are. The President has the unenviable task of selecting a cabinet and it is impossible to please man. If what is being reported is to be believed, there are those who think they are owed positions. My advice to this is that each should be written a personal thank you note for their support of the President’s quest to the state house and move on. You cannot repay them. It is not your duty or obligation to do so.
In the grand scheme, it would be better to have a few people upset with him than to have the masses be angry with him for the next 5 years. After all, a good servant already knows that.

My question is: Can very many individuals see the "big picture" about what a truly non-corrupt government will mean to Sierra Leone? My guess is that, all in all, presently, no, not very many people can see it.
What are the implications of a TRULY non-corrupt government?
The focus will then shift to private sector opportunities, and what YOU can, (and whether you can do it...) bring "to the dance", so to speak. For example, what would you bring if you knew that you don't have to pay bribes at the port? Would you send for them, from your relatives overseas? Would you bring materials and supplies to create local jobs? Would you have the hope and belief to imagine such things? Would you bring solar panels and the tools and supplies to make your project work?
The focus turns towards self-reliance, and local communal self-development. It also implies "equal opportunity" based upon personal initiative, and less upon tribal identity. If you can bring chickens, then you can sell meat and eggs. Nobody will care who you are, or how you spell your name, if it smells good around your cooking pots. The government will take a supporting role, and the intelligent individuals will move in the direction of the private sector, where there will be far money to be made, and away from the government, where it will be increasingly unattractive in terms of making a livelihood. Those who take public sector jobs will either be truly performing a public service, or else they will be willing to settle on a secure, but rather bland and non-lucrative position. This is the future, and the stalwarts of the APC must accept that no possible repetition of the SLPP years is any longer possible. The days of accountability have arrived, and the people expect no less than a true reformation and transformation of the predominant paradigm. Beside the fact that the SLPP partisans, now "outsiders", will spare no effort to point out the flaws of the new government, so also, the people at large, including many coalition supporters are expecting real and genuine change. This is a true opportunity, and the world is watching. Implicit in the presence of opportunity is the threat of destruction.
Let people of good will coalesce around this new government and shield it from the same old, same old selfish individuals who do not have the best interests of the country at heart, regardless of party or tribal affiliation. The question for you now is: what do you think the priorities of the new government should be? I have heard people mention electricity, and I would like to suggest the following:
1) health..."public health"...in every respect, all that the title implies: rehabilitation and therapy, general nutrition, anti-malaria campaigns, etc. and all the issues this raises, such as refrigeration of medicines, support of regional and local clinics and hospitals, training of nurses, etc.
2) education...the money must be found to make school fees obsolete. There should be FREE public education of ALL Sierra Leonean children through a secondary education, and schooling must be made mandatory by law so that truly every Sierra Leonean child has the opportunity for a good education.
Only after these two priorities are addressed should the rest of the "what's in it for me" community have their issues addressed. First and foremost should come the foundation of the house, before you go about building the walls and the roof.
Some favorite person of mine once said," What you do to the least of my brothers, you do to me." So now I ask you, as John Kennedy once said, " Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country."

The priorities to start with are actually complex. If you just started with health and education, you still have to address a multitude of other issues. Let's just start with health. Health by itself doesn't seem that complicated, but since my background is in public health I immediately start seeing some of the root causes of poor health which include sanitation, clean water, health facilities, and the list goes on and on. You talked about refrigeration of medications, well how are you going to do that without electricity? How are medical facilities going to be rehabbed and how will they attract trained medical personnel; especially for rural areas of the country?

I really haven't been a part of the taxi driving bashing that has gone on in this forum. There are people who go overseas and get caught up in all kinds of illegal schemes. There is nothing wrong with being a taxi driver. It's honest work that allows you to feed your family. Some of these same people on this forum bashing taxi drivers probably received help from their taxi driving relatives before they landed where ever they are in world today.
I don't think the president is going to select people who are not qualified for the positions they are appointed to. If that were the case, he would have announced the cabinet by now. All the same, I don't think people should be excluded from consideration because they may have driven a taxi at one time in their lives. My greatest concern, even above professional qualifications is whether they are truly servants. At some point, politics have to stop being viewed as a means for upward mobility. If the original intent of these positions, service, was stressed and enforced, you wouldn't have nearly as many applicants.

They would do better to start from scratch and bump their heads than to try and coexist with folks who are already set in their ways.

But if they are not credible enough to occupy official positions, how would they be credible in giving official or unofficial advice? Don't you think those olu-corrupts will give corrupt advice? You can not harvest an orange from a mango tree. What do you think. If called upon what will be the first thing you would want put in place in the country?

I don't think that everyone who has served in former administrations was corrupt. It will be very difficult for this new administration to function without some input from the past.
If I were asked about the first steps, I'd look at electricity and thrash/sanitation. Not because they are necessarily the most important issues but because the people need to see changes. Some of the other important issues are going to take a long time before people will see real change so I'd work on them at the same time as I worked on the two I listed above. For the trash and sanitation project I would enlist youth and post war amputees. I'd set up something like Americorp that we have here in the US. It primarily employees young people to serve for one year within their communities to help address issues. They receive a small stipend during their one year of service and are eligible to receive payments for school and additional training after their service. I would move forward with a service theme throughout the country. Everyone would be looked upon to serve the country. I would really try to move away from the expectation that someone else is going to come in and solve all the problems and look at strategies to empower communities to find solutions to their problems. The post war issues are so great that the citizens have to be empowered to become a part of the process for change.
Yes a I'm a Christian and yes I'm married.

Erica, I must say that you're the most articulate participant I have come across so far. You seem to understand the problems and solutions to our country's issues. I hope the President includes intelligent women of your calibre in his government. The electricty and garbage problems should be addressed first.
The only concern I have is with the youth proposal is the amputee recruiting. How will a one-legged or zero-legged amputee clean the city?
Gosh! and you said you are married? Oh well. Anyway. Where you attend church?

Let’s ruggedly criticize the APC leadership in a reasonably constructive fashion; afterwards we the people are always victims of bad governance and such moves would only justify our consciences [limited though].

To echo BRA ENVIABLE's earlier comment, I am a little bit confused about the transition. IN parliamentary systems, when the opposition wins an election, they begin to govern more or less immediately with the shadow cabinet essentially taking over from the outgoing parties. The shadow cabinet are all members of parliament. In presidential systems, the winner remains president-elect for a month to six weeks, while a "transition team" screens and interviews potential candidates for cabinet and executive branch positions. These candidates are not usually MP's. Sieer Leone appears to be using a hodge podge of both systems which makes it appear somewhat disorganized to non-insiders such as myself.

Bock Jah, you're welcome sir. Can you throw any light on all this talk about parliamentarians needing to resign their seats if appointed to the cabinet? Is there a provision in our constitution that bars parliamentarians from becoming ministers? What about Paramount Chiefs? I mean, even the UK Prime Minister is a sitting parliamentarian with a constituency !
Looks like we tried to mix n' match US style separation of executive/legislature with UK Westminster style winner-takes-all elections. End result: a right 'ol Mammy Coker palava sauce with too many ingredients for a small country!
I wonder if those calling for an all-APC cabinet understand that, if APC parliamentarians/Paramount Chiefs are barred from cabinet, Pres. Koroma has no option but to widen the net?

Lamina Poyo has been seeking to control his forefathers’ plot of land for a long time. The plot of land is located on the top of Fort Thornton. His claim to ownership was that he had been a good errand boy during the days his relatives were killing anyone who dared compete for control of the land. The immediate uncle of Lamina Poyo who last occupied the land left in disgrace and died poor.
In the past ten years Lamina Poyo has marginalized and labelled his cousins as spoilers. His cousins hail from Bomba Town and Ro Bakeh. Lamina Poyo is however very likeable and his smiles are reassuring although most who know him believe he never has a clue about what is happening around him. In fact it is widely rumoured around Ro Kiamp where the land is located that Lamina Poyo has always been a puppet on a string, with no self initiative or vision. Others have said Lamina Poyo is under rated.
Whatever the descr1ption of Lamina Poyo’s disposition, everybody in the town agrees that during his fight to occupy the land at Fort Thorton, Lamina Poyo found out he had no money. As such he started promising the moon and the stars to anyone he could come across just to get support. Lamina had relatives who lived far away from Fort Thornton.
Most of these relatives were sent there by Lamina’s uncle while he occupied the Fort. Unfortunately most of them refused to go to school and they settled for selling ice cream and cleaning jobs. On his numerous visits to his cousins living far away, Lamina Poyo made friends through promising them the moon and the stars.
Within two years, Lamina Poyo had a following of hungry relatives and friends who had been away from their land for a very long time and had achieved nothing. With the help of these friends and relatives and some strangers, Lamina Poyo stole the papers to the land and was declared the owner.
Now it is the tradition in Ro Kiamp that when anyone is declared owner of the land on the Fort, that person must administer that massive house on the hill. The house has many rooms that must be occupied by people who would be given different tasks of looking after the land. Lamina Poyo in his quest to acquire the property at every means necessary had promised more people rooms than were available.
In fact, sometimes, he would promise four people the same room. Due to his many promises, Lamina Poyo could not distribute the rooms without angering his puppeteers. He is in a dilemma and the people of Ro Kiamp are still waiting to hear from him. Lamina Poyo is confused and he exclaimed aye Kanumassallah wetin hemor for do now? To save face, Hemor Lamina Poyo hastily put together a group of shady figures to find out what the former occupants in the rooms had been doing.
One ardent support of Lamina Poyo was so upset that he sent smoke signals to all saying we did not help you to get the land so that you can select a group of people to check the rooms. Select the new occupants of the room now.
The people of Ro Kiamp are becoming very uneasy as Lamina Poyo has failed the first test. Ro Kiampese are saying that Lamina Poyo’s hench men are in a big fight. The fight is between those who had been away from Ro Kiamp for a long time and those who believe they were responsible for stealing the documents to the land.
Whatever the case, Lamina Poyo seemed to be between the rock and the hard place. Ro Kiampese are now wondering whether Lamina Poyo was ever ready for prime time. In fact some of Lamina Poyo’s detractors are now saying he could be even worse than his uncle who once occupied the land on Fort Thornton.
The people of Ro Kiamp were later told the Lamina Poyo is shaving sleepless nights as he knows not what to do. He said he thought acquiring the land was like playing Ar pass ya wherein you can run and hide in a Poyo bar. It turns out even now Lamina Poyo can no longer hide. People heard him and his cronies singing one night:
Ar pass ya
Nor way nor way
Ar pass ya
Nor way nor way
Oosai ar go buy me poyo baaaaaa?
The cronies pointed to Fort Thornton in and said in unison yaanda.
Unfortunately, when Lamina Poyo got to Fort Thornton, he found out Fort Thornton is no poyo bar where you make empty promises and not deliver. The people need an operating system on the land immediately and those he promised said that if they are not given what they were promised, they would just expose Lamina Poyo’s victory. In short, Lamina Poyo was never ready for leadership of the land of the forefathers. This became more evident when he found out FORT THORNTON IS NO POYO BAR.

Hello Awareness Times,
I hereby offer a slight clarification you may want to publicise.
My mother is Mrs. Shirley Gbujama, the Minister of Social Welfare, Gender & Children's Affairs in Sierra Leone. Her recent trip out of the country (publicised by your medium), after the swearing in of the new president, H.E. Ernest Bai Koroma was pre-planned and official.
It was a trip to Abuja to attend a conference on children. She was only gone for three days.
I just think you should know and let your readers know also.
Thanks in advance for publishing this clarification,
Amie Gbujama.

Unecessarily personal. Who said Sadam insane was Joe gbujama. Sadam insane purports to be from the North and Joe is as far from the North as you can get.
Why do you have to be so vindictive. Is it that Insane has pointed out the incompetence of the new APC and Ernest Koroma. He can not select a cabinet on time , how is he going to solve Sierra Leone's pressing problems.
God save us from these bunch of APC incompetents.

Yes, it’s the locat1on of scene that determines the situation she’s in. Stay on the scene?
If she wasn’t messing up with my computer, remotely, if she was doing it here, then
something hot (my dog) would be messing up with her to lively up herself live and direct so that she would start behaving properly, the way that she ought to behave towards me.
Sometime ago someone called” freda maitland” was aghast thought it was Creole upper-class-ism that I said yes, I know Sylvia’s dad etc , she has good home training and it’s reasonable to expect perfect behaviour from her
She is a computer wizard/witch, has showed her prowess at another Forum (don’t want to go into details about the havoc she caused as Pippi Longstocking) and when I complained to my friend I was assured by him that it Sylvia and only Sylvia it is who is messing up and trying to do her best on me.
The day that I will finally meet her face to face, she will have to pay and keep on paying for what she has done and what she's doing right now – because after war, there must be peace.
Btw, I’d like to see peace and love reign between her and the Rt. Hon Rev.
Since love is the essence of the Reverend’s religion, it could all continue with forgiveness and end in an unimaginable conflagration of passionate consummation.
You know there are other newspaper editors etc apart from Sylvia Blyden who wants to be the centre of everything
As for me after all that SLPP vote-rigging and inflated numbers, now that Sir Ernest is king

BOMBALI SLPP STALWARTS DIE SUDDENLY
Former Chairman of the Makeni Town Council, Pa Yamba Fornah, another prominent member of the SLPP in the Bombali District, also died on Thursday and his remains have since been interned.
Former Member of Parliament, Hadi Sheriff from Karina in the same Bombali District passed away over the weekend in Freetown and his body had since been taken to his native Karina for burial.
The frequent deaths of Bombali SLPP stalwarts have created a lot of concern among members of the Bombali community who are lost in wonder and are still to come to terms with such a tragic coincidence that has led to the frequent deaths of people from the same party and from the same region.

In other words, I just do not agree with Eddie Grant that Sierra Leonean females are less educated than their male counterparts. My gut feelings.
Regarding the feminist statement, categorically NO! I am not in any way trying to be a female chauvinist. I might try to promote gender equity in a way, but that is all I am doing. No more no less.
I would like to respectfully disagree with you though that in Sierra Leone women are objects of sex. That is absolutely a wrong representation of my native land. Women may not have risen to the level of men in Sierra Leone, but they are not in any way used as sex objects. In fact in Sierra Leone, women have all the rights that men have. We may be suffering from a natural gender disadvantage experienced even in developed worlds like Europe and in the U.S. We will surely catch up in time to come but we are doing very good as women in Sierra Leone. Remember Madam Yoko, Mariatu Koroma, Musu Kandeh, Kaddie Sesay, Nana Pratt, Sherlley Bujama, Talabi Lukan, Mammy Saffa (of the FBC Cafe fame), Chris Thorpe (SLPP remembers her), to name but a few.
The only BIG PROBLEM confronting Sierra Leonean women (especially us from upline),is the lack of freedom to SAY NO TO FGM. Abolish FGM and we will be on our way to gender equality.

Your educated guess might be right. There are more females than males worldwide according to the U.N statistics. Also, in the United States, there more black females graduating from colleges and universities. Given that body of evidence, you might be indeed right that there are more educated Sierra Leonean females in U.S, than their male counterparts.
Here is what I don’t agree with. FGM. Don’t be fooled by what you see and hear on Western TVs. FGM is good. It’s cleansing and it’s purifying too. Wonder why prostitution is not prevalent back home? This same western TV is now saying males should not circumcise--. because circumcision is now option for males, you have all kinds of infections that these ‘nut heads’ carry in their uncircumcised scrotums. (Excuse me for plain talk). Western TVs should condemn their college sororities where there is mass rape, sodomy, and lasciviousness behavior before they begin to interfere with FGM. I don’t know about you but I am an FGM fan.

Female circumcision had been there in our mother-land for a long time. maybe even before pedro da cintra founded Sierra Loa. SIERRA LEONEANS Tribes performing it never had problems with it. We never heard mass deaths from certain Native girls. WHY NOW?.......Because some westerner started it and says it is barbaric. Some of our misguided compatriots also want to join the bandwagon.
I Respect the CHINESE. They don't take everything the westerners say is best. They weed out the ones beneficial for their society. Everywhere they go, they take their culture along.

Satta, my sister I am not talking about stuff on western TV neither taking stuff from their tabloids or books. I am talking about a personal experience that I think is uncalled for. Also, do not get me wrong, BONDO is okay but the very act of FGM has no benefit but disadvantages such as low sex drive, very very long sexual intercourse time needed to attain climax if ever (most of our men last only a few seconds anyway).
Bo do yah mi sista leh we help campaign for ban dis bad bad ting yah so.

Mbalu, it seems you have been radically westernized. You said FGM abolishment will lead to gender equality. Where is the connection? It is like saying lesbianism (women 'sexing' women) will lead to gender equality. I disagree with you on that. There so many wicked and immoral acts we need to abolish in western societies before we allow them to pay us stipend to abolish ours. Why is sodomy glorified int he west and they are now talking about giving them license to marry? I rather go for FGM than involve in sodomy or lesbianism.
On the sex drive time, I think the longer the better. The quicker you reach climax, the sooner the game is over. So I don't have a problem with the former. You need more work or therapy time!
By the way are you married?
Are you also against MGM?
I also remember mammy Kema, Jenkins and all those people?

Satta,
The main difference in our view points is your emphasis on western this and western that. I am absolutely not talking about anything to do with the west. As far as their HOMO stuff is concerned, I donot even want to talk about that because it is plain disgusting. I am not westernized when it comes to FGM. I am crying foul to my own people out of my own volition. I am my own woman. My character had been shaped long ago, thanks to FBC and the student union resuscitation struggle days, and thanks to the all boys school where I went for my sixth form (upline, somewhere...).
So sister, whilst I agree with your on the filthy western practices like homosexuality, the west has got nothing to do with my problem or opinions.
To the longevity before sexual climax thing, it should be a great thing if (i) you, the female, enjoy the process of active thrusting (in,out, in,out, etc) and (ii) if only the brothers could last as long as it takes for me to cum. In my case, both (i) and (ii) are dead issues. I can only control (i)and I already said it before the pleasure level for me is not quite there, which I squarely blame to FGM. See my point?
No, Iam not against MGM (if this means male circumcision). It is a clean thing to do. I refuse to SUCK it if has foreskin.......thank god I've never met one like that......don't try the Jamaicans, ar yeri say dem nor dae go baythi.
Lets talk old days @ FBC: if I remember old JNEG Smith? Of course. And also Koth Sheku, Mammy Robinson etc. My fondest memories of Pa Smith is his tussle with the Aureol Times guys. Saquee and Vistro gave him hell on earth. May his soul rest in peace.

No locat1on, with sustained street trading and the proliferation of illegal structures, slums, ghettos and “potes”, coupled with stray pigs and dogs roaming the central business district - all of which vices persistently contribute to a lowering of our national social standards and global ranking - can or should be aptly described as a Capital City.
As traders and demented vagrants compete for prominence in the Law Courts and State House environs, our entire national Cathedral/Wallace-Johnson Street axis - eye marked for development by Council as a “Heritage Promenade” - to name just another locat1on - has also been transformed into garbage dumpsite and market centre for vagrants.
Illegal structures have also sprung up right in the middle of prominent side streets - such as the Siaka Stevens Street/Upper West Brook Street intersection - which are yearning for development as feeder roads to ease traffic congestion. Such structures constitute an eyesore, and have continued to deprive law abiding and rates paying residents access to emergency services such as the fire force and ambulances and must be demolished.

The agonizing wait for President Koroma’s cabinet is beginning to produce kittens in many stomachs. Weeks after elections toppled the reigning government on a popular electoral wave, Sierra Leone is yet to be outfitted with a government. A well-managed opposition should have a cross-section of its personnel ready for government the moment it senses the smell of victory. Sierra Leone is relatively stable, but a needless interregnum should be avoided by a swift and orderly transfer of power. Were there not any structures of leadership within the party as the APC entered the electoral fray with hopeful signs of victory? Why is the President keeping Sierra Leoneans on tenterhooks by giving rise to rumours about who goes to what Ministry? How ready was President Koroma for the Presidency? Was he so shocked over the SLPP’s defeat that he needs time to gather his wits before marching to power?
If President Koroma the business man cannot anticipate the fluidity of the market, how can he be expected to avert a recession that could strike the economy with a depressive fit? Translating that into politics, how will this President handle a national emergency that requires an immediate response? How will he, for example, re-arrange his security apparatus when national security has been ominously imperiled by, say, an incursion from one of our neighbours? A man that cannot {tactfully} stitch a cabinet in the luxury of peace, can hardly be expected to handle national exigencies arrayed against his country. President Koroma has so far not shown the agility needed to head off an emergency. If coupling a cabinet of men he knows can become onerous to him, then this President cannot be expected to neutralize a national emergency in the nick of time. I am not a pessimist. I am simply a critical observer of my President!

In time of peace he should prepare for war and vice versa.
Before the election he should have had possible person(s) in mind for various position(s) of trust instead waiting for the masses to complain about NO Cabinet.
The situation is very serious...

You are right. Time is of the Essesnce, and yes he should have had person(s)in mind for various position(s), but Sierra Leone is not just not any country.
Sedouba, let's look at it this way ... The APC inherited a house, that needed more works than they anticipated. Now that the house has been vacated, he now knows the task that lies ahead of him.
Don't you think he has to assess the situation all over again, and assign the tasks to the right people?
I hope so ... What about you?
Blessings

EBK has been an opposition leader for ten good years. He knows the inner workings of the S/L gov't, so nothing is new to him.Why so long ?
He is not a JC...right!!
I beg to differ on this one.
Remember, he cannot please everyone but he has to please himself by ensuring that the person(s) appointed to position of trust can deliver in a timely manner.
In politics there is now guessing ,one has to be decisive, proactive and never compromise in terms of principle.
By delaying his cabinet appointment, he is showing his indeciveness by trying to please everybody thus leading to speculations, rumuor mongering etc.

Well said Lovey Dovey,
The President has to be a critical observer too … Don’t you think so?
Sierra Leone has been abused and neglected for too long. It’s been placed from one foster care to the other, each time more battered than when they left the previous care.
If this President is going to treat this poor country, a well thorough assessment plan needs to be drawn to accomplish the gargantuan task that he chose to tackle.
The country has multi-layers of issues that cannot just be handled by anyone scrambling to take upon that assignment. The President told the masses what was wrong with the country; they listened and concurred, hence his victory. He promised to fix it, not to jinx us.
Let’s be patient and give him some time to produce the names of those whom he thinks qualifies to treat Sierra Leone.
If we don’t like his choice, then as critical observers, we can let him know that his team of experts will not be able to accomplish their goals, based upon …. Yadi yadi yada… .
Lovey Dovey … Let the man use some LOVE … (Listen … Observe …. Venture slowly ….and Engage in your mission) … technique for our country.

Dear BRA ENVIABLE:
May I respectfully implore you and others apparently impatient for the announcement of the new cabinet, to please give President Koroma more time to carefully select a proper cabinet that meets the aspirations of all factions of his supporters as well as the public's, not to mention his own expectations for achieving his promised agenda for our country!
Not only does it take lots of time to properly select suitable personnel and receive their acceptances, he may need time to explain to the disappointed hordes why they were not included in his team or included at levels they may not be happy with or at variance with enlarged egos. The practice of genuine domocracy requires such a consideration.
Making the type of decisions inherent in selecting an appropriate cabinet is an extremely difficult task, especially under present circumstances of few openings but with a large supply of good people willing to put forth their best endeavors in the public interest and in a country without a prosperous private sector or other secure avenues for talented people.
In my estimation, it is far better for our new president to take all the time the job requires to be done properly than for him to seek to meet the apparent deadlines of some anxious people.
After all, his administration is in caretaker hands in the interim.
So,please let's be patient, for a job well done is much better than a rushed job. Thank you. - JL

This characterization does not in any way "bashed" such people.
What I successfully "bashed" was the bogus assassination attempt. Thank you. JL

"This characterization does not in any way "bashed" such people."
So, John Leigh, The Dishonest, has the meaning of the word "bash" changed to "compliment?'
If not, how does calling people a derogatory name like "san san boys" constitute not bashing them?
Your dishonesty, not to mention your denseness, was perfectly captured in your feeble excuse: "What I successfully "bashed" was the bogus assaisination attempt."
If that is true, you should have no problem showing us that your derogatory statement "san san boys" referred to the assasination attempt! But what do we find when we look at what you wrote? Just the opposite -- that your "san san boys" was insulting only those persons -- not an assassination attempt -- whom you referred to as "uninfluential types!"
So, are you asking us to believe that your assassination attempt (in the singular) has now magically become a plural quantity ("uninfluential types?" If not, how could you have been referring to a single (one) assassination attempt in the plural?
The obvious answer is proof of your notorious corruption, albeit your driping dishonesty: You used the plural to the singular assassination attempt, as you claim in copious dishonesty, but to the plural "uninfluential types!" That means you were referring to people -- not an inamimate "assassination attempt" as "sdan san boys!"
In short, John Leigh, you are a bald-faced liar! Not to mention a particularly desperate liar -- for how else to explain your insane attempt to avoid taking responsibility for abusing our boys by trying to tell us that you were rerrering to an assasination attempt when you called them "san san boys."
Leigh, tell us: How do you know the "assassination attempt" was not a girl?

As for your jovial slip of the tongue "you are full of insults," is this coming from the same John Leigh who had derided our current president as "Jamil's Peggy Boy?'
The same John Leigh who referred to Charles Margai as "a form four flunkey?"
The same John Leigh who denigrated Margai's supporters as "san san boys?"

Here is the evidence: The writer, John Leigh, failed to duly disclose to his unsuspecting readers that he belonged to the very same cabal of bribe-giving party hacks in the SLPP, whom he criticized as oportunists selfishly delaying the completion of the new APC president's cabinet.
Clearly, therefore, John Leigh concealed material information from his unsuspecting readers. I don't know where you learnt English, but in the books of knowledgeable people, such a blatnt fraud committed by the serial briber, John Leigh, can not be validly described as "objective" -- as you did, in error.

First, Leigh is not accused of not being a member of the SLPP. That is a manifestation of your predictable incomprehension. What I stated was that Leigh is a bribe-giving member of the SLPP's more selfish and unpatriotic cabal. There is a vast difference between my actual and very simple statement and your uncomprehending understanding of it.
Second, leaving aside the arrant irrelevance of your opinion, how do you know that "We all know that John Leigh is a member of the SLPP.. ?"
Are you a mind reader? Or merely dense?

Please stop assassinating the English language!
As for the simple error you could not see, for an obvious reason that is much too notorious to warrant adumbration, please try to follow the following simplified explanation of your mistake of comprehension:
The charge of omission against Leigh was that he failed to duly admit that he was a bribe-giver no less than the similar charlatans he alluded to in his post.
The reference to Leigh being in the SLPP was incidental to that main charge. It was meant to differentiate the beneficiary of Leigh's bribe-giving from that of his like-minded brethren in a different party -- the APC -- that he actually lamented in consequently dripping hypocrisy.
But, of course, I have only the slimmest hope that you would ever understand that simple but crucial distinction.

Outing yourself among your kind, are you?
Okay, leech, tell us why we need to "Give the guy a break"?
Did the foul-mouthed, "form four flunky-spewing," John Leigh, the SLPP serial briber-in-chief give the honorable Charles Margai a break when he insulted him compulsively, including the epithet quoted in this sentence?
Did the sumum bukum, Oonjum fahun (deaf and dumb in the language of Islam, Arabic), John Leigh, give the God-fearing Christian APC then-future and current president by labelling him Jamil's Peggy-Boy Ernest Koroma?
Tell me, leech, did the self-hating (his S/Leonean identity), inferiority-complex-ridden loser, John Leigh, give the long suffering youth of Sierra Leone a break when he insulted them for choosing the GREAT Charles Margai over the puny lilliputian, John Leigh (he's only 5 feet tall and weights a puny 120 pounds), by calling them names such as "san san boys?"
Answer me, leech!
Only if the serial bribe-giving, compulsively foul-mouthed, perennial sore-loser, and linguistically-challenged (he makes up non-existent words in English), John Leigh, gave all the above people a break would he be given a break.
Otherwise, no break for the unwashed beak called John Leigh!

Dear SLPPer:
You sound like one of my PMDC form-four flunkey MTDs (Munku Tombo Dumbos) peggy-boys who can't tell the difference between pre-election campaigning and post-election governance.
My campaiging on behalf the SLPP here was surperb. It devastated opposition campaigners in this forum. My problem was that the product bach home was not good and key constituencies turned against the party at voting time. My culture is to stay and fight it out, not cut and run to seek alphabet-soup benefits.
Since the voting, I have adjusted to my party's election loss. Now is for us all to help the new government govern successfully regardless of party or pre-election posturings.
First, please let us allow our new president to work carefully on selecting a proper cabinet for the good governance of our badly governed country. What we don't want is a government like the last one with one intemperate cat presiding (and lording it) over a cabinet full of timid, trembling mice.
Next, the fact that I was sass against SLPP opponents during the campaign does not mean sensible ideas from me can't be considered. Like I said, I have already moved from my pre-election posturing to looking for ways and means to build a new nation. That's how democracy functions.
For example, George H. Bush angrily and repeatedly labeled Ronald Regean's Economic Plan as "VODOO ECONOMICS" and other perjoratives during their hot Republican primary contest. Yet after that contest was over they put aside their animosities in the public interest. Unschooled campaigners like yourself ought to learn the essentials of democracy before running your mouth. The elections are long over!
Third, the English Language is made up entirely of coined words and phrases. Not a single word in the English Language came from God or from any of His Angels. Every word in the English Language was coined by human beings. Further, English Language prides itself as a living language; i.e. contiuously importing newly coined words and phrases while also shedding archaic words.
Thus if someone like me coins words not in the ELanguage and uses such words in the appropriate context so that even the self-appointed spokespersons for san-san boys, omolankay drivers, car wash boys, bike drivers and assorted foolumunkus & remedials are able to understand the meanings of my postings, I am doing exactly what English Language innovators have done since man began speaking the ELanguage. People like you really need genuine education, not crame en pass rubbish.
Lastly, I never uttered a word from my mouth about peggy boys, Sahid Jamil, MJTDs, form four flunkies, foolumumkus, remedials, san san omolankays, etc. duriny the entire campaign. Hence, there is no basis for blaming my mouth. But you are free to blame my PEN. Thank you. - JL

And, you Leigh, sound like a dim wit who had the folowing exchange with hisd FBC lecturer:
PROF: You wrote the wrong definition of the term ;agency'"
DIMWIT: Please sir, it is not the definition which is wrong, it is the meaning of the word that is wrong.
Leigh, in case you missed it, the moral of the story is : No difference!
and so it is for you pre- and post-rants: They are no different because they were uttered by the SAME rude person -- you, John Leigh.
So, whether you uttered "a word from [your] mouth about peggy boys, Sahid Jamil, MJTDs, form four flunkies, foolumumkus, remedials, san san omolankays, etc. duriny the entire campaign" -- or after or before makes absolutely no difference to the FACT that you did utter them.
That marks you, John Leigh, as rude, crude, and boorish. It is an indelible mark. (That means it will never go away from your back -- before, after, or during the campaign, with/without governance.

"The agonizing wait for President Koroma’s cabinet is beginning to produce kittens in many stomachs"
Careful Enviable, kittens have claws. Don't want to see a shredded tummy in the E.R. For the life of me, I don't understand the fuss about the cabinet. No cabinet in Africa has ever performed especially well as far as I am concerned. The cabinet is only as good as the president's vision. No matter what the composition of the govt that eventually emerges, most of them are gonna loot, steal or be simply incompetent. It is the sad African paradigm. I am no pessimist, it's just historical reality. I guess all these tenterhooks about the cabinet is more because we have been historically primed for a cabinet, any cabinet, after an election, than any effective impact on governance.
Let President Koroma take all the time he needs. The country is crawling with so many criminals, brigands and shady characters that it is better he exercised extreme caution than lock us in with a pack of ravenous wolves.

Your observation is right but only amplifies your worries and impatience. Reasonable contributors to this forum highlighted the difficulty of forming a cabinet. The running theme in their commentaries is ‘choosing the right people to deliver the goods.’ Over the decades, Sierra Leone has been infected with roughs, thieves, and all sorts of people coming in diverse stripes to misuse our God given wealth. Even the so called educated Sierra Leoneans are not trust worthy. For instance, John Karimu and his cohort. Why did they demonstrate their true colors during the elections? That was the least I had expected of an educated person, and that is the only declared insane. So choosing a cabinet needs serious thought to put in place a credible team. We should wait to judge his team. Then if there is war, like you said, the president is the commander in chief: he knows what to do.

I think the above mentioned part of your speech is contradictory...
Has, or HAD...?
If it had, then why disinfect the old bens and karimus and put in the gbessay kanus, and trye and foes..? would that not be counter productive..? If this was the case would Kororma not be accused of flop flopping, talking with the side of his mouth..?
Bra Enviable is right.. Koroma should have had a shadow cabinet in place.. A transition cabinet that he could have reshuffled in the first 90 days.. and get the right people in..
It is slowing dawning on us that the business man we hoped & wished for is turning out to be a petty trader after all..bereft of grand idea's.
I wish us luck.

No sirree! Leading a charge against EBK, with the demented Sylvia Blyden afore, will not make Berewa president or upend the agenda of progress that was anathema to your corrupt party. I notice your trick of deflecting blame from your lousy boss men, the two Johnny Ks, by digging up the ghosts of Hassan Gbessay Kanu, Victor Foh, etc in an effort to frighten people. As bad as Hassan and Victor are concerned, they are PEGGY BOYS, compared to the master thieves of the SLPP. You guys tried this red herring thing during the elections and were soundly repudiated by the people.
I know it is every bitter SLPPer's wet dream that our president fails. Guess what, you are gonna be disappointed big time. Prezzy K is gonna do what that slimeball govt of yours couldn't do in donkey years. He is gonna bring amazing progress to the country and no amount of propaganda will change that. whether he is still not sure of his presidency is out of the question and is not an issue here- he is president elect (not by rigging as was the former in 1996 and 2002)
Do you want him to hastily do things at your own time?
You just need to sit and wait as our president puts his team together..... why the haste.
I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT THE NEW CABINET IS GOING TO BE BETTER BY FAR IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD THAN WHAT WE HAD FOR THE PAST 10-11 YEARS WITH THE CELEBERATED EDUCATED PROFESSIONAL "AKATAS" WHO ARE ALL A DISGRACE TO OUR NATION.

I was born a rebel with one hand," Watson begins his book. "I grew up thinking it took two to fire an assault rifle, or play jazz piano, so I became a journalist instead. I was aching to go to war. It's shameful to admit now, but at first I got off on the killing. Surviving when so many others died was a rush like what a chronic gambler feels when a slot machine pays off big and a room full of losers stare daggers."
Having only one fully-formed hand never stopped Watson, who was a school chum of one Stephen Harper in Etobicoke back in the 1970s. Watson even once lured the future Conservative prime minister to attend a Liberal party function.
Watson, however, is best known to Canadians as the Toronto Star journalist who, while covering the civil war in Somalia in 1993, shot a photograph of the corpse of an American airman being desecrated by a mob in Mogadishu. The photo won Watson a Pulitzer Prize. The photo helped make the Americans increasingly wary of engaging in African adventures, a factor that exacerbated the Rwandan genocide in 1994. And the photo nearly drove Watson insane.

President Koroma is a good man but being a president and not forming up a goverment of your own in more than three weeks is on hard off.
Presently, SLPP is still keeping the country going because they have agreed to work for the good of the country. They could have choose not to do so and Koroma would have left with no choice but to appoint the uneducated, Taxi driver graduates into his cabinet.

Taking one's time to name a cabinet is not unique to EBK. Lots of leaders before him spent months to reach such an important decision. A good example is the current Nigerian leader, who took weeks to select his cabinet. For those of us in the United States, we should know how long it takes incoming administrations to name cabinet members. For starters, George Washington took five months to name a cabinet of 4 individuals. He said he was interested in appointing into his cabinet intelligent Americans who would also reflect regional balance and interests. I know that EBK is not George Washington, but why the haste. I suspect the very people who are now the chief proponents of the speedy naming of a cabinet will be the first ones to criticize EBK's list of nominees.

KON KON! SIERRA LEONE IS IN ECONOMIC DOWNFALL BECAUSE THE SLPP STOLE EVERYTHING INCLUDING THE KITCHEN SINK! Those thieving knaves practically destroyed the country, leaving no infrastructure behind, while greedily padding their bulging overseas accounts with ever more loot.
So while you and the de facto leader of the SLPP, Sylvia Blyden are truculent over a small delay in the naming of ministers, we await the audit report to show the whole world what the hastily assembled gang of SLPP thieves inflicted on us.
So take a break from the propaganda and start to honestly criticize the SLPP messocracy.

My friend the above statement is so true. I remember before the OAU in 1980 (exactly), our 75 cents can get you 1 UD$ (One US dollar). When my beloved uncle used to send me a $100 note, I will take it to Pa Lido at Lido Hotel and he will give Le75.00 (75 Leones).
In 1980, we were advised not to take loan just to host the OAU. Pa Sheki bend all rules, Bank governor Bangura was against the loan and refused to sign the loan document. Our money was at that time directly linked to the British Pound. Britain advised us not to take the loan and that if we do; they will de-link our Leone from the British Pound.
All of a sudden, it was alleged that "Highway- a thug" was hired to murder the bank governor (Bangura). No justice came out of that murder case as the key witness (Titi Koroma, - niece of the bank governor) mysteriously disappeared.
Another Bank governor was appointed and the he signed the loan documents. We took the loan; Britain de-linked the Leone from the British Pound. We went into something "SDR" Special Drawing right, I think!!
The next thing after accepting the loan, our Leone jumped from 75 cents to a dollar to Le 6.00 to a dollar. The next jump was from Le 6.00 to Le 9.00 to a dollar. It continued to float and fluctuate and the dollar even became scarce on the market. When you apply for dollar at the bank, you will be told "subject to availability." From 75 to Le3000 per dollar is huge. When SLPP took over, It has been stabilized to around Le3000 for ten years. Did SLPP do that by mere luck? I don't know. But that in itself is worth mentioning.

Not true.
First of all, the leone was never 75 cents to a dollar in 1980. It was Le 1.25 to a U.S. dollar.
Second, it was SLPP leader, Salia Jusu Sheriff who took the leone from down for the first time in the historey of Sierra Leone to Le 2.50 = $1 in 1979 with his dumb two-tier system.
Please try to leave your SLPP partisanship behind when you want to start talking about the history of SLPP's destruction of Sierra Leone's economy.

Candid, I agree with you and I think we will soon have a good start of whistle blowing after the audit. We will go to the culprits houses and take our money back down to the last window. Oh my, I can't wait to start the whistle blowing. Where our hands cannot reach, like far places, the UN will do the whistle blowing for us.

All right then, let the games begin. Let's begin with the pack of ravenous wolverines of Kabbah's government and take it back all the way to independence, and ferret out the highwy robbers from the pick pockets.
You will soon discover that your SLPP are really the Ali Babas of all thieves. They are the supremos of thieves. Tiff-tiff should be condemned, but where other governments steal pennies, these rapacious SLPP nasties gobbled hundreds of millions of dollars, while giving us the middle finger.
I tell you Candido, you are a honorable man, but you are, in this case, supporting a bunch of wilful, unconscionable money snatchers, bra.
Gotta run to my next class. Will return in an hour!

Mr candid opiion, if you were a patriotic Sierra Leonean as you claim to be, you should have started the WHISTLE-BLOWER THING WITH THE SLPP that received and squandered the highest funds from both the UN and other donor agencies in the history of Sierra Leone.

I should have.. but politics was not this polarized..
It was us VS us then, now its us VS you and your red cowboy hats and dull yeye VP..
I never realised norsee this blatant tiff i keep hearing about that the SLPP did..
I thought most of the aid was administered by the NGO's themselves or thier own chosen contrators.
Most of the rest of aid is budgetary support.. and waiteman nor stupid, they had people going over the books of the governemtnt...and though the salary is small and disgraceful, people got their money. and children went to school..so the budgetary support was used to shore up the budget, if not all some..
So all this tiff John ben en Karimu, en kabbah tiff.. i just never saw..
If anyone (Ah know say APC get plenty backers in ministrys and police and parastatals) has any evidence that SLPP ministers raped my country..
Please bring it forth.. email it to cocorioko and blydens paper and let the world know.. This is the only way we will check corruption.. by making it an expensive habit..

John Benjamin is as clean as a slate. He is just waiting for the cab drivers to ask him question because they are incapable of doing a full blown audit. He wants to return back to his computer business. Now that is what I called sane.

From the EU's own aid implementation arm...
ECHO – Humanitarian Relief (implemented via UN agencies and specialised NGOs) 2003 9.0
Food Security (implemented via specialised NGOs) 2002-2004 3.7
EIDHR – European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights (implemented via local institutions and specialised NGOs) 2002-2004 6.0
Co-financing with NGOs 2002-2005 1.7
Europe is the biggest provider of development aid in the world.
And these where the focal sectors..
------------------------------------
Focal Sector - Good Governance & Institutional Support
The second priority sector is designed to support the efforts of the Government to consolidate a decentralised democratic system characterised by an effective social service delivery throughout the country and participatory, transparent and accountable governance with a strong civil society watchdog function. It will thus contribute to the creation of an institutional framework that enables sustainable economic and social development.
Improved governance and financial management in priority areas is the specific objective pursued by EC support in this sector, for which an indicative amount of € 19.0 million has been reserved.
Macroeconomic support
The Community will support the efforts of the government to rebuild the economy of the country and to improve social service delivery. The Community will support the macroeconomic reform programme of the Government. Special attention shall be given to the objective of poverty reduction, particularly with a view to ensuring equitable access to social services. Macroeconomic support shall be delivered under a three-year programme. An indicative amount of € 50.0 million has been reserved for this type of support.
Non focal Sectors
An indicative amount of € 5.0 million has been allocated to activities and projects in non-focal sectors and can be mobilised for the following purposes:
Evaluation and audit of programme implementation within the focal sectors and unforeseen studies in non-focal sectors;
Strengthening the capacities of the civil society including women groups;
Contributions to regional projects and programmes;
Assistance to the negotiation of Regional Economic Partnership Agreements;
A reserve for insurance against possible claims and to cover cost increases and contingencies.
Evaluation of the fisheries resources and, in particular, of the fishing possibilities which could be offered to the EC in the framework of a SL/EC Fisheries Agreement, and assistance to the negotiation of such an Agreement.

EE GBIN KA KURU Candid one, those louts in the Kabba govt are absolute Tiffanas (Supa-dupa-tiffs)! Wait for the reports to come out and be amazed at the greed of man. So thorough and venal is the robbery of the treasury that we are all going to hold our heads and weep. As much as I support Ernest, I will be screaming for his head if he commits such atrocities, but it seems that the patriots of the SLPP have a double standard. And candido, what do you think of crazy Sylvia effectively acting as the leader and official spokesman of SLPP. Where are the leaders?

Alieu, the cabinet will be duly announced in time. I think it is better to delay a bit, while a thorough vetting is done on all prospective servers. If the president rushes and gives us a bunch of thieving incompetents, we will all be howling for blood. The only people who are restless are the insurgents like Sylvia Blyden, who is using every excuse to display her creepy and uncouth character-assassinating brand of RUF politics she learned as a Ninja, under Foday Sankoh's tutelage.
So Bra Alieu, let's give the man a little more time. It's gonna be ok. A little honeymoon for EBK is not asking a lot, is it?

I read your editorial with admiration only to reminded you that all politics is local and similar. As a TEGLOMA member,we played a pivotal role in re-emerging the SLPP to power in 1996.
GUESS WHAT? We were treated the same way until it was about to blow out of proportion before Momodu Koroma (then Presidential Affairs minister) wrote a letter asking to have a dialogue with the TEGLOMA members rather than let it play in the hands of our enenies. Nothing else can out of the episode. So, APC Diasporans, WELCOME TO THE CLUB.
